Later that week, I was listening to a pastor talk about Cyrus, a king God called by name 200 years before he was born. I marveled at this. I looked up Cyrus in the Bible and found him mentioned in several places, but what God said about him in Isaiah 45:2-3, struck me with wonder:
I will go before you And make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze And cut the bars of iron. I will give you the treasures of darkness And hidden riches of secret places, That you may know that I, the LORD, Who call you by your name, Am the God of Israel.
God kept His promise; Cyrus was born at the appointed time. God’s word is a true and faithful as the rain and snow that come down, water the earth, and make it fruitful; He sends it out and it accomplishes what He pleases, it does not return to Him void (Isaiah 55:11).
God did exactly this for us in moving. He removed obstacles and gave us a “Get Out of Jail” card. He made the crooked places straight…broke in pieces the gates of bronze And cut the bars of iron. Whatever would have barred us, He removed. We did what we were supposed to do, but He gave the okay for us to move in. He gave us two helpers from our church and even provided a reasonably priced moving service for us! We were moved out and into our new apartment within a four hour period! It was the smoothest move we have ever made!
When I read, “I will give you the treasures of darkness And hidden riches of secret places,” I was reminded of the earlier lesson about Jonah – it was in darkness that He finally submitted to God’s command. It was a confirmation that He was bringing me to a place of absolute surrender and that while living in this dark apartment, I would receive His treasures and hidden riches through the places He would take me!
I went forth in His strength because He had fed me with His word! It was a sumptuous meal! My soul rejoiced, “He is the LORD, there is none like Him; there is no God besides Him!”
For you shall go out with joy, And be led out with peace;
The mountains and the hills Shall break forth into singing before you,
And all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. ~ Isaiah 55:12
