with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and He shall direct thy paths.
~ Proverbs 3:5-6 ~
I don’t know what it is with trust, but it’s one of the hardest things for me to do. These verses from Proverbs were given to me when I was in high school, yet they neatly sum up what my life is about.
One day I was opening the refrigerator door and saw this:
I was surprised by God’s sense of humor in using this combination of refrigerator magnets to get my attention. I don’t think I’ve ever combined these two like this, Noah must have done it. Regardless how it happened, they were definitely a gentle reminder from the Lord to trust Him.
The next thing I did was to set “Mom” directly atop the metal magnet, while I thanked Him for encouraging me to trust Him.
These two magnets are now a reminder from Him, “Maria, trust in Me with all your heart. Don’t try to understand what’s happening and don’t act out of your own understanding. Look to Me, I will direct you; I already have a path laid down for you.”
Knowing this produces an amazing calmness in my heart. It may be the result of the absence of fear, combined with security and confidence in Him that brings peace. It may be the result of resting in Him, knowing that He’s with me and in control of my life that brings that peace. There are instances when something tries to snatch His peace from my heart, but He squashes the turmoil, confusion, and fear that arise. He restores my soul.
I’m blessed to have a heavenly Father who knows and cares for me in such a way that He uses insignificant objects to encourage and strengthen me.
I encourage you to look to Him, the author and finisher of your faith, and to trust Him, because there is none like Him.
The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
~ Numbers 6:24-26 ~
