I woke up to the sound of chirping birds. Upon opening the blinds, I saw young, lithe sparrows hopping and flying from branch to branch within the bushes and on the black plastic rope that holds the tree upright.
Very slowly and quietly I lifted the blinds so I could get a picture, but they flitted about so quickly that it was impossible to focus and shoot. They were like children in a playground energetically talking and moving about.
When they were done, they flew away as a squadron of planes to the trees and tall grasses and were hidden from my sight. I was left holding a camera and looking at the greenery before me bereft of birds. The only thing that I saw was a single strand of spider web floating and shining in the sunlight.
I thought of how we flit from one thing to the other searching for something; yet how quickly we become discontent with what we find and move on to the next thing. Yet, as the greenery, the Lord remains to remind us that He is the constant in our lives; He provides the contentment, the satisfaction, the fulfillment that we so desire. He is the solid ground on which we stand. He doesn’t move, we do. Truly, “The LORD is my shepherd. I shall not want.”
As the greenery remains and the sun shines upon it, so too, the Lord remains in us, gives us His word, and shines His light into and upon us that we may share Him with others as we go through each day. “Father, in Jesus’ name, help us to be a refreshment to others, to shine for You with the light of Your glory, and to share You with those who come into our lives today. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
The Lord bless you today.
