A Child’s Love

King David, the psalmist of Israel, reveals his heart’s desire in Psalm 27:4,

One [thing] I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple.

Doesn’t that just make your heart leap with longing for Him? Like the deer that pants for streams of water, that’s how we should thirst for and love Jesus.

I saw a toddler’s face reflect longing. He loves Disney’s Little Mermaid, Ariel. I asked him, “Why do you love Ariel so much?”

There were no words, just a look of rapture:  He tilted his head to the side, his blue eyes got dreamy, and he smiled.

His dad simply said, “He’s in love.”

That’s the look I want on my face when I hear the name, Jesus; don’t you?

Father, help us be Your instruments of grace and love to those who need to know You love them; in Jesus’ precious name, amen.
