I have been crucified with Christ;
it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me;
and the [life] which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God,
who loved me and gave Himself for me.
~ Galatians 2:20 ~
Look at that smile on his face! Most people are known by their signature, Walt was known by his smile, kindness, gentleness, and laughter.
While here on earth, Walt was one of those rare individuals who took all the misery he was acquainted with and refused to be bitter about it it. Instead, he lived a life steeped in Jesus Christ. For even as tea leaves must be crushed and steeped in boiling water to release their flavor and goodness, so was Walt.
Walt chose to live for Christ as He perfected his life. He brought joy to others, an understanding heart, and a steadfast friendship to those he knew. He lived a crucified life and many were blessed to have known him. His personality, a deep love of God, and his love for those whose lives were somehow afflicted shone through his relationships and activities.
His smile and eyes reflected his personality when he worked lovingly, patiently, tenderly, and in delight, with the Laurel Ruff kids. All children with special needs received care and love from him as if each one of them was his own child.
His body was attacked three times by different cancers: Hodgkins, thyroid, and stomach. Each time he went through it valiantly and without complaint, patiently enduring the treatments to rid his body of them. He had other physical ailments, but as Wendy his wife said, “Walt didn’t complain.”
Today, Walt is celebrating a life that has no years attached to it, but is eternal in the heavens. Now, as he beholds the One who loved him best and at whose feet he will cast crowns, Walt, I am certain, has heard,
“Well [done], good and faithful servant;
you were faithful over a few things,
I will make you ruler over many things.
Enter into the joy of your lord.”
~ Matthew 25:21 ~
As you finish reading this, please keep Wendy in prayer.
To our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, be the honor and glory and blessing for His gift of salvation and everlasting life, amen!
