Sons and Roses

Her children rise up and call her blessed.
~ Proverbs 31:28a ~

I was driving home from Trader Joe’s one afternoon when I saw the two boys, about ages 10 and 8 walking with a spring in their feet. My heart felt a momentary jealous pang when I saw what was in their hands, but I very quickly repented because God showed me what was in their hearts.

The older boy was holding a bouquet of red roses wrapped in cellophane. The younger boy was behind his brother, with his hands behind his back; in them, an unmistakeable bright green Trader Joe’s dark chocolate bar.

My thought as I passed them was that soon a very loved mother was going to be very surprised and blessed by the thoughtfulness of her sons. I pictured the flowers placed in a tall glass vase and the chocolate bar placed just so on the table.

My heart melted within me at their thoughtfulness and I thanked the Lord for these boys. Roses and chocolate, what mother would not be happy receiving these gifts from her sons?!

Father, thank You for allowing me to see these boys and what was in their hearts. Thank You for their thoughtfulness; I pray their mother was blessed beyond measure and that her relationship with them flourishes; in Jesus’ name, amen.
