Love never fails.
~ 1 Corinthians 13:8 ~
Do bad news ever cease? I just heard that a pastor, for whom life has had major trials recently, has lost a son, who was not only a youth pastor, but also a husband and father. (It is not that pastor who has been in the news.) Within an hour of receiving this news, another friend tells me that she is back in the hospital with a relapse of pericarditis.
Will you please join me in praying for this pastor and his family, and for my friend, Wendy? Because His love never fails, even in our darkest hour, we have this confidence that He is with and for us. His love has gotten us through the trials we have faced and will continue to hold us up in the future. He never changes; He never leaves nor forsakes us; His presence is magnified in our deepest need. Romans 8:38-39:
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
And while [We are] hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; [we are] perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed…we do not lose heart (2 Corinthians 4:8-9, 16a).
Our God instructs us to comfort our brothers and sisters; and prayer is one means of bringing comfort to them; it is a gift to those who are suffering.
Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God…[Y]ou also helping together in prayer for us, that thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf for the gift [granted] to us through many
(2 Corinthians 1:3-4, 11).
This is how the body of Christ works together, led by the same Spirit to meet the body’s needs, the one who is strong helping the other when he is weak and feeble in spirit and soul, so that they may not lose heart. Let us not forget that
The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much (James 5:16).
Thank you for joining with me in prayer, for these two families, and others, whom you know, that are in need of prayer. God’s leading and blessing be with you as you stand in prayer.
Heavenly Father, this day, though a bearer of bad news, has You in the midst of it. We are thankful that You are with us in whatever we encounter. You are the One to whom we turn; the One who gives us hope, helps us to breathe, and sustains us through the day’s events and emotions — You comfort us. Wendy, and our brother and his family are hurting in different ways, but You know what is going on inside of them; we ask You to minister to them. Thank You; we ask this in Jesus’ mighty and precious name, amen.
