Peace in the Night

Psalm 121
A Song of Ascents.

I will lift up my eyes to the hills—
From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth.

He will not allow your foot to be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD is your keeper;
The LORD is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
Nor the moon by night.

The LORD shall preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul.
The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in
From this time forth, and even forevermore.

Swirling star detail from Van Gogh’s “Starry Night.”

Life can be erratic during the day; at night it brings sleeplessness.

But our gracious, merciful, and loving God reaches out to meet us in the night and speaks peace to our souls.

Thus did He reach out to me with Psalm 121 two nights ago. In the morning two more songs. Today, more rest and peace. Truly, He is faithful and worthy of our praise.

Dear Father, in Jesus’ name, thank You for Psalm 121. The comfort and peace You give sustain and maintain me in the midst of physical change. Thank You for knowing precisely what I needed and providing for me. Amen.
