But God demonstrates His own love toward us,
in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
~ Romans 5:8 ~
My daughter just asked me why I was so weepy. We were listening to Pastor Bill Welsh’s message* on Jesus’ crucifixion.
I couldn’t help it. Jesus carrying the cross; Jesus being nailed to the tree; Jesus watching the soldiers divide His clothes; Jesus watching and listening to the people mock Him; Jesus saying, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.” Jesus on the cross still loving those around Him though He was in agony, dying for them, for us.
I’m still weepy; I just can’t get past the fact that Jesus died for me. Can you?
Here then is the prayer:
. . . that you, being rooted and grounded in love,
may be able to comprehend with all the saints
what is the width and length and depth and height—
to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge;
that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
~ Ephesians 3:27-19 ~
Heavenly Father, thank You for the depth, height, and breadth of Your love shown and given to us through our Lord Jesus Christ. Never let us forget what was done for us, nor let it become a commonplace event; for You, Lord God, went to extreme lengths to secure us for Yourself.
Thank You, Lord Jesus, for what You did for us on the cross, making it possible for us to come to Your Father and to be Your own. Your love has overwhelmed us.
Now to Him who is able
to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think,
according to the power that works in us,
to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus
to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
~ Ephesians 3:20-21 ~
