“Love is patient, love is kind…”
~ 1 Corinthians 13:4 ~
My husband has a nasty head cold, so on Valentine’s Day instead of going out, I bought his favorite Mexican style chicken for dinner. We were going to a Valentine’s Day banquet tonight, but we are staying home—it’s a part of our vows, “I, take thee, Don/Maria, to be my husband/wife, to have and to hold in…sickness and in health…”
On Monday we celebrate our 24th anniversary. Whoosh! The years have come and gone, but the vows we spoke 24 years ago are still in force. His commitment to me does not waver because, “I made a covenant before God to love you through all things, Maria.”
Don’s love is special, it’s for only for me. We don’t look or are the same anymore, but that hasn’t changed our commitment to each other. Our love isn’t the same as in the beginning, it too has matured. True, life-lasting love is sacrificial—it gives to another when we’re not “feeling” it. Our life together hasn’t been easy, but God has remained at the center of it; thus, He keeps two imperfect people united through our love for Him and for each other. He’s always working things out for the good; He is a faithful God.
Thank You, Father, for bringing Don into my life. He’s the man who You chose for me. Through the ups and downs of life, I’m thankful that he’s been a faithful and loving husband. May our lives together be a blessing to You and somehow glorify You. In Jesus’ name, You made us one, and “until death us do part” we will remain together. Amen.
I love you, Donny; this is for you.
