America, You’re Too Young to Die

Righteousness exalts a nation,
But sin is a reproach to any people.
~ Proverbs 14:34 ~

Elijah, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and other Old Testament prophets cried out in vain to the people of Israel to repent and return to their God. The LORD used the Assyrians and Babylonians to bring the Israelites to their knees and cry out for mercy. A remnant of those faithful to the LORD God of Jacob returned to Jerusalem.

So it is with the United States of America.

My heart cries out for what is happening in this beloved country. Once upon a time this country led the world, today its leaders have brought reproach to it. It is not too late, my fellow Americans, to ask God to restore it to Himself; because in doing so, many will be saved.

This is the fourth verse of Scott Francis Key’s, Star Spangled Banner:

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust.”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Pray, brothers and sisters; pray. The freedoms that we enjoy today were purchased at a tremendous cost—the life and blood of this nation’s founders and those who have fought to defend it. Many are still giving their lives for us. Let us not forget that:

Dear heavenly Father, we acknowledge that our people have sinned against heaven and against You. We confess that in our pride and strength we have taken You out of the spotlight and confined You to the closet. As a result, this nation whose prominence came from You, is now a reproach to many; it is dying before our eyes and our leaders want it that way. Father, have mercy on us and return to us. Do not let our leaders continue to exhaust our national strength and vitality, and consume  us.

The journey back to You begins as we surrender our hearts to Jesus. True freedom is found in the ultimate sacrifice of our Savior and Lord, Jesus. Help us, Father, to surrender our lives to You that this nation’s heart—its people, may return to You. The battle for the nation and people belongs to You, Lord; it is in Jesus’ name that we cry out to You boldly, for we are in need of Your mercy. Amen.
