For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth,
to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.
~ 2 Chronicles 16:9a ~
I got up later than usual on Friday, about 10:30 am—the first heat wave that hit southern California left me feeling like a wilted flower. Don was working on something, and Noah, well, Noah is in Japan with some close friends, so you can imagine how quiet it was in the house.
In order to get my mind and body moving, I listened to “Rise” by Housefires II. While I was listening to it, I thought the singer was saying that the Lord nestles us because He loves us; but the verse actually begins, “Your love will never fail, You’re steadfast,” not “Your love will never fail, You nestle us”!
Immediately, my mind went to Noah. I thought, “The Lord is nestling her right now.” He’s there with her, nestling her close to Him in order that she may know Him—His presence, love, care, strength, encouragement—everything that He is that she needs to know about Him right now.
When I shared this with Don, he said, “It’s so that she knows that He’s the only one she can rely on because we’re not there with her.”
How thoughtful of the Lord to have me hear the word “nestle” so that I understand that’s what He’s doing with her. He’s so wonderful!
A bit of background: Two days after she arrived in Japan, she called us. She was having excruciating pain radiating from her lower back to her feet—most likely sciatica resulting from the long plane trip, lugging around a backpack and large suitcase, doing walking tours of the city they’re visiting, and sleeping on a tatami mat floor.
We sent out prayer requests for her after we finished talking with her. Many brothers and sisters are praying for her.
After our conversation, the 2 Chronicles 16:9a verse came to mind and was like an insistent toddler—it kept cycling through my mind and kept me in prayer for her. I wasn’t anxious, but had a deep, abiding peace and joy; I marveled at how the Lord would be showing Himself strong on her behalf.
The next day she contacted us to let us know that the pain had lessened. By Friday, the pain was even less, and her left leg hamstring was tight and the entire leg had spasms, but she was able to participate in a conference and help with the children. She is enjoying the trip inspite of the physical problems she’s encountered. Our Lord has strengthened and encouraged her.
Our awesome Lord was and is showing Himself strong on her behalf! Told you He is wonderful!
This is my encouragement: Know that our Lord is with you through whatever it is you’re experiencing; you’re not alone! He is faithful and true. He shows Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are loyal to Him (2 Chronicles 6:19). Are you crying out to Him? Be of good courage, He is with you. Are you weak and barely holding on? He is strong and mighty to save (Zephaniah 3:17); He is upholding you with His righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10). Are you growing tired of waiting and growing weary in heart? Don’t lose heart, your reward is coming (Galatians 6:9). Wait, I say, wait upon the Lord (Psalm 27:14). He will strengthen and give you hope so that you can endure; when the time is right, His deliverance will come.
Dear Father, how marvelous and mysterious are Your ways! You always bring to completion that good thing that You are working in us, in conforming us into Your Son’s image. How blessed we are to be Your children, to have Your presence with us showing us the way of righteousness, and to be loved by You. Wherever we may be, You are with us and for us! In the name of the One is faithful and true, Jesus, amen!
